If you've ever seen the movie Mean Girls starring Lindsay Lohan circa 2004, this quote probably brought some movie flashbacks to mind. One of my life missions as a mother is to introduce my kids to all of the awesome movies and sitcoms from my childhood. Granted, Mean Girls isn't groundbreaking cinema. It's a movie about a girl who lived abroad with her parents and moved back to the States only to get sucked into a clique of high school mean girls she was trying to stand up against. Over the summer Sarah and I have watch this movie three times, once along with my boyfriend and his daughter.
-I must pause here to tell you HOW ridiculous I feel, at my age, saying the word "boyfriend." I wish there was another noun for a man you're dating after the age of 25. I feel like once you're 26, "boyfriend" sounds so childish; so high school. My partner? Ew. My beau? Yuck. The guy I'm dating? Sounds so cold and unemotional. Since there is no such word, I'll stick with "boyfriend."-
Unpause: The clique of Mean Girls has a mantra: On Wednesdays, We Wear Pink. The group of 4 friends always coordinates and wears pink on Wednesdays. This morning Sarah and I decided we were going to adopt the same mantra for the duration of my cancer journey. On Wednesdays, we will wear pink. We stopped at Old Navy this morning and bought a few things (turns out pink isn't her go-to, so she doesn't have much pink in her closet).
I'd like to invite you to join us and wear pink in honor of my cancer journey, and the journey of any other woman you know who's walked this road. I'll wear pink to honor my mamma, my friends Val and Stephanie, and another sweet friend who was just diagnosed two days ago. This Wednesday I have an appointment with the plastic surgeon for a consultation and for an echo to assess heart health before getting a port for chemo, so I feel like this is a great Wednesday to start.
I am wearing pink and virtually hugging your neck ❤️
