It's been 10 days since my last post, which these days is WAY too long. In those 10 days, I've set up a classroom, begun to teach 3rd grade, and have had my first chemo treatment. It's been a whirlwind. But for now, lets focus on the funny things.
- At chemo, the nurse (a guy) told my mom and I over and over that neither of us looks our age. I'm thinking maybe he just wanted us to feel good about life....or perhaps needed glasses. Because I, for one, look every bit my age these days.
- I had COVID about a month ago for the first time. I think it's super ironic that I never got COVID until I was going to a hospital several days a week where every employee is vaccinated and employees and patients alike must wear a mask.
- I had a full hysterectomy by the time I was 32. I will now have no breasts, at least for a while until reconstruction. This was a sore spot for me for a while, but now I snicker to myself and think of the Friends episode where Rachel was rumored to be the Hemaphrodite Cheerleader from Long Island. I'll just call myself the Hermaphrodite Teacher from Houston. 😂
- Both kids commented today that it'll be a bummer when I don't have cancer anymore, because then the Meal Train stops. Then they looked at me like this 😬 after realizing how it sounded and I just laughed and agreed. That will be a downfall of being cancer-free: no more Meal Train.
- A new colleague who's getting to know me for the first time summarized my personality well the other day. She said "I think it's great how Kelsey says things like Mary Poppins, but in a way that you know you'd better do what she says." There's a lot of power in being Mary Poppins with an edge. Haha!
That's what I have for you for now, friends. Try to laugh. Because if we don't, we cry.
